Taxes Filled Out Early 02.01.09
The past couple of years I’ve had Jackson Hewitt do my taxes, but after getting charged $200ish last year, I figured I’d do it myself this year and save some cash. I’ve done them before in the past, but only when I needed to do the 1040EZ form. I had to do the 1040 long form this year, and to my surprise it wasn’t too painful at all. The worst part about doing it is having to look up certain things in the IRS’s instructions to see exactly what they are talking about. But for just an hour or so worth of work, I’d much rather do them myself from here on out. Plus the money I saved can go towards the amounts that I owe
I had some discussion at work, and it seems that sometimes the forms aren’t so easy to find for some people. So here’s a few links for the forms that I had to use and a couple of extra ones. Maybe it’ll help someone out or save them some time trying to find any of them.
Federal Forms:
- 1040 – Form, Instructions
- 1040EZ – Form, Instructions
- Schedule A & B – Form, Instructions
Georgia Forms:
- 500 – Form, Instructions
- 500EZ – Form, Instructions

Good for you! I used to be one of the people you would pay to do your taxes! Some situations are really quite complicated, but for most reasonably intelligent people, if you just take your time, and follow the instructions line-by-line, you can usually do just fine. There’s also some pretty good free online software, like TaxAct.com. You’re all done, now…
You’ve included some good links here, too!
Oh I can imagine how complicated it can be doing others’. From what I’ve heard, doing it for someone that day trades stocks is a real headache. I agree completely with you, just have to take your time and make sure you read it right.
Thanks for the link! I’ll keep that in mind for next year’s tax time
