My trip over the weekend and up through Wednesday was a busy one. I thought that we were going to be traveling ~1100 miles, but I think it ended up being 1200-1300. It went very well though. I was technically on the clock for 65hrs throughout the 5 days, so I was feeling pretty tired when yesterday night came around. We worked from job til job until it was closing time and had to stop, only stopping to hit a quick drive thru for lunch, so that we could get everything done on time. It was a success!
Last night felt sooo good getting to sleep in my own bed. Some of the hotel beds aren’t bad, but there is nothing like sleeping at home.
I love the trips away from home like this because it is neat to see different towns and cities and what other places are like other than home. Hendersonville, North Carolina had probably one of the nicest looking towns I have seen. It reminded me of some of the ones you see on TV shows. At one of the hotels one night I saw on some brochures that we were a few miles from Chimney Rock, North Carolina. I grabbed this pic online, but that looks like it would be an awesome site to see. There is supposed to be a park there with it, so that would definately be a neat trip one weekend to check out.
I’m just about all packed up and ready to get out of here in the morning. I’ve taken Monday-Wednesday off from work next week; not for a vacation (that would be nice btw), but to give my brother a hand again in catching up his work. We’re going to be spread from Atlanta to Chapel Hill, NC covering about 1100 miles roundtrip between the jobsites and 31 different jobs. The tasks will be just adding in a few new devices to their current security setups, so they should go rather quickly once we get familiar w/ the setup.
On another note, I’ve been looking at some of the photos I’ve taken here recently, and have decided that it’s about time to upgrade cameras. I’ve got my mind set on a new Nikon
This week has been a work week and a half! Yesterday, combining my regular job and working for my brother up in Knoxville, I was on the clock for 19 hours. Last night we made it home at 4AM. I thought about just not even going to sleep and just waiting until time to go to work because I know how hard it is to wake up after just a little bit of sleep. But I ultimately decided that a few hours of sleep would be better for me than none. 7AM rolled around way too quick. So today I’m running off of 3hrs sleep last night, a full night the night before, and just 5hrs on Tuesday night after working 17hrs that day. Needless to say though, I had no problem whatsoever going to sleep on Tuesday
I think I made it to bed at 9:45 that night, which has been the earliest in a very very long time, and was out like a lightbulb.
I’ve got my leave request filled out for Tuesday-Friday after Memorial Day weekend and will turn it in today for approval.
My parents are building them a new place in McCaysville Georgia, a very small town about 60 or so miles away from here, so that whenever my dad retires they can move over there and live. They are both from around that area, and love the feeling of a small town rather than Dalton. Dalton’s cons for them are: having just a half acre lot, living in a subdivision, neighbors that have drinking parties and have their music playing til way late at night, gangs, gang graffiti, traffic, etc… I’m used to all of that, but they love McCaysville so much better.

I haven’t blogged in a few days because not too much is really happening. My brother and I finished up that Census project we were on, and so far have only got one back to be resubmitted after correcting a few things
We’ve been working outside for the past 3 days GPSing the utility poles, fire hydrants, crosswalk poles, water valves, and any other major thing along a road that is about 5 miles long in total. Included w/ all that stuff is also the edge of the asphault. So now that it is May and nice and warm out, I’m pretty burnt from the sun. You’d think I’d learn to remember the sunscreen
Tomorrow we are heading down to Watkinsville, Georgia to do another security install for my brother. It’s probably one of the better ways to spend a wet saturday..making some money
After we get off work at 5pm, me and Chase are heading down to Temple, GA, about 1.5 hrs away, to get started on a job for our oldest brother. We’ve got these security installs down pretty good. It used to take 10-12 hours for us to completely do the wire runs and mount all of the devices, but after doing them for quite some time over the last couple of years, we can do them in 8-9 hours. Practice helps lead to efficiency, and in our case that is true
We are looking at being back home at probably 3-4am on Saturday, which my parents aren’t in favor at all of us being out that late working and driving, but when duty calls you gotta do what you gotta do
Maybe it’s just me, but I’ve always viewed parking and parking spots as a first come first serve type deal, excluding Handicap parking of course. We have an upper lot and lower lot here at work, which is seriously no more than 100ft max difference between parking in the lower as opposed to the upper.
We come in this morning and begin to park in our usual spot that we always manage to get, just to get pointed down to the lower lot. Apparently they are having a meeting downstairs and would rather have the guests get the good spots; good meaning way less chance of someone dooring your car.

Things have been so hectic this week at work. Thank goodness that today is friday. Apparently before my brother and I go out in the field to do our work, we have to go around to everyone and ask if they need us to make any maps or files for them before we go. Which really is no big deal, except for the fact that you can’t find some of the people here until 9:15, and w/ a two hour drive to our destination to begin work, that cuts into our work time a huge amount. That happened a couple of times this week and made me so mad a few times Continue Reading..
Usually I wouldn’t care at all, but w/ a strict deadline, there’s not too much room to play on.
If you’ve caught something on your computer that constantly gives you annoying popups, advertisements, and anything else that is extremely annoying, and can’t seem to remove it with your regular software, I’d recommend giving the guys at Cyber Tech Help forum a shout.
At work we had a computer that had a trojan that Norton just couldn’t seem to Quarantine, and the computer had problems with ads popping up when using IE, so I got the task of cleaning it up.

I so forgot how much more I enjoy work when I’m doing field work rather than office. All week this week we have been outside driving to each railroad crossing in particular counties and GPSing them. The week goes by so much faster not sitting in the office all day. Monday and Tuesday were pretty nice outside, but today was very cold. I think it was in the 20s when then wind chill was factored in. Not bad for some of you I know Continue Reading..
but we’re not really all that used to it
