Sleeping So Lightly

by Shane Holden on August 16, 2011

Feeling tired throughout the day, and never feeling like I am rested, I think is partly due to my recent move of sleeping lightly. It’s definitely not a change that I wanted, because I hate it! Every single thing wakes me up during the night, and it’s killing me.

I can’t go to sleep if anyone is up watching TV in the living room, because I find myself tuning into the audio, trying to figure out what the picture would be looking like or try to figure out what exactly is on.

Our dogs are on a scratching kick, where they just can’t seem to soothe an itch, so they are constantly scratching or chewing. They’ve had flea treatments, so that’s not really a problem. The only problem is the slight scratch, no matter how light, wakes me up every time. And only me!

We have some new neighbors that apparently have half a dozen dogs. Most of these dogs live outside, and bark at anything and everything! So needless to say, during the night, they bark, then our dogs start barking, and I’m wide awake.

Gonna Sleep Good Tonight

by Shane Holden on March 23, 2011

Not from the aid of Tylenol PM, or something similar, but from the aid of a brand new mattress set.  This has been a long time coming, and I can’t wait to see if I feel better each day afterwords, and hopefully for the first time in a long time, wake up feeling rested.

My Sleep Position Revealed

by Shane Holden on May 1, 2010

According to Yahoo!, this is what my sleeping positions reveal about me, which is suprisingly accurate.  I tend to sleep in either of these, depending on where I’m sleeping and whether I’m having trouble sleeping or not.

  • Fetus position – A whopping 41% of participants sleep in this curled-up manner. Women are twice as likely to rest like this and it is listed as the most common position. These sleepers are said to have a tough exterior but are still sensitive and may appear to be shy but warm up quickly.
  • Freefall position – Those people who lie on their bellies with arms under or wrapped around a pillow with head turned to the side, make up 7% of the population studied. Freefallers are brash, outgoing, and are very uncomfortable with criticism.

Sleepy Arms

by Shane Holden on May 12, 2009

I think it’s a pretty good sign that you need a new matress or a different sleeping arrangement/position when you get better rest and sleep better altogether on a hotel bed.  We usually stay at Choice Hotels when we’re out of town because they usually have really nice rooms and have a hot breakfast in the mornings, and their beds feel so nice to sleep on.  My only gripe really is the pillows, and I think it’s just because I am so used to mine at home.  I’ve always slept on my stomach with my arms stretched out of the headboard, and for the last few months I’ve had trouble falling asleep because my arms seem to go asleep before I can get knocked out.  That ends up keeping me awake because it drives me crazy for something to go to sleep on me – I hate that tingling feeling.  Perhaps as much as I hate to sleep on my back, I should give that a try, or maybe try to be more physically active to help me go to sleep easier.

All-Nighter And Much Needed Sleep

by Shane Holden on March 26, 2009

I’ve said a few times before that I “feel like I haven’t slept at all,” but after doing my first all-nighter and operating for about 36 hours, most of which was working, with absolutely no sleep at all, I know exactly what that expression is supposed to feel like.

Tuesday I worked my regular 8:30-5:00, and had already agreed to take the night and do a job for my brother that was nearing it’s deadline.  We’ve done this a few times before, and while it isn’t ideal, you have to do what you have to do.  We had about a 2 hour drive to the job in Newnan, Georgia and got started right away.  Everything went smooth and we were packed back up and ready to head home at 4:00AM.  Before leaving, we went into a convienient store to get a drink, and the casheir said “have a good morning…or night.”  And there all that time I thought it was just me that was confused what you say at that time of night..or morning.
