Dalton Mayor and City Council voted unanimously Monday night to terminate the city’s contract for red light cameras. It was a unanimous decision. The cameras have been up for more than a year now. And City leaders say they’ve outlived their usefulness.
They are saying that these in town have reduced redlight violations by 75% while in use, which I must applaud. I’m not a big fan of the cameras, but I do understand that in order to receive a ticket, you have to run a full blown redlight. So going under one that is yellow doesn’t count. I don’t like the sound of this, and I expect to see other cities adopt the same idea. Just because you get busted for speeding you should have to pay for the cops to be able to patrol? Maybe I am just misled, but I thought that was what taxes covered
It wouldn’t be that bad if I didn’t know 100% without a doubt that many of the officers, at least around here, use their sheriff/police cars for their own personal business.
