Zebulon

by Shane Holden on July 26, 2009

Friday after work, we drove out to Zebulon, North Carolina so we could do a job there on Saturday.  It was about an 8 hour drive, so that gave us plenty of time to shuffle through album after album on the iPod to stay entertained.  I don’t think we really got to see much at all of what the town actually was, but from what we did see, it was a clean little town with some nice buildings & houses and really just just had that nice small southern community feel to it.  With such a unique name, one would have to wonder where it came from, but the town was named after the Governor of North Carolina during the Civil War.

Smoking Regulation

by Shane Holden on June 15, 2009

No SmokingAfter living for a while in a state that has a ban on smoking in public places, you forget how truly awesome the ban is.  May 2005 was the magic time when Georgia made the move.  No more being asked smoking/non-smoking when you’re seated.  The biggest problem that I have with the habit is the carelessness and manners, or lack thereof, that seem to follow the nasty habit.  Especially like for children, who have to ride in cars with their parents while they smoke away.

Busy Busy Week

by Shane Holden on July 4, 2008

I’ve had this entire week off to help try to catch my brother up on his work, and we have been running on little sleep but knocking stuff out.

On Monday, we started the day by driving down to Suwanee, Georgia.  I had never been there before, but from the little bit that we got to see, it was a neat clean city.  Of course being down towards where it was, Atlanta, traffic was pretty heavy thoroughout the whole time we were there.  What I liked about it, they had the Zoning Ordinances that restricted new buildings to all look similiar to the existing buildings rather than all being different with loud colors and such.  It also limited where the signs for businesses could go.  All of the buildings down there were a modern clean looking brown and tan brick and they all blended in nicely with each other.  So no eyesore looking businesses.

Father’s Day Ride

by Shane Holden on June 15, 2008

On Father’s Day, my brothers and I all get together with our dad and take a long motorcycle ride together to spend the day w/ him. We got a late start today, left about 1:30PM, but had a very enjoyable trip. The weather could not have been any more perfect. We rode about 250 miles up through Tennessee, over into North Carolina and up into the Nantahala National Forest. The Nantahala is a beautiful place. The trees are so tall and the mountains so large that it almost makes you feel very insignificant to the world. I can only imagine how nice it looks during the winter after a good snow.
