For the first time in a very long time, I just passed on eating inside Chick-fil-A, but only for a reason that I’m happy for them for—they were absolutely packed with people! Like not a seat available packed. They deserve that kind of business every single day.
Just sitting here thinking about lunch yesterday, how funny it was. My brother and I was eating at Chick-fil-a, on the side next to the playground. The playground door was locked because it had rained earlier, and even with the lack of people sitting outside, that didn’t stop kids from trying to get out. This one little boy and I’m guessing his grandpa walked by to try to go outside, when the little boy noticed that my brother and I are twins. Now you’d think that’d be something that you’d get used to, to where you didn’t blush when you notice that it’s being pointed out. Yet when he proceeded to make sure everyone around us knew, I can only imagine how red I must have actually been. I’m a modest guy, so while I may have felt a little uncomfortable, it was so worth it to see that little guy’s face light up with excitement and the recurring smile I get when I think about the whole thing.
Back in November, I was lucky and won another Chick-fil-A Twitter contest. This time it was for a milkshake, which I’ve never had before, even as often as I go. They not only look nice, being topped with whipped cream and a cherry, but they are delicious! It was hands-down one of the best milkshakes I’ve ever had! When I think of shakes, I usually think of Steak ‘n Shake, but not any more. They’ve got some serious competition now. The free one from the contest has sold me on them, not to mention I like the way Chick-fil-A runs and it’s ethics.
I usually don’t have any luck at all at winning anything, but today I actually did. I just happened to check my Twitter account after lunch to see what was happening, saw the question posted from Chick-Fil-A, did a little quick math, and low and behold, I won! There must have been some way off answers seeing as how I won with being off a few billion, but I was very surprised to see my name on there.
Life will break you. Nobody can protect you from that, and living alone won’t either, for solitude will also break you with its yearning. You have to love. You have to feel. It is the reason you are here on earth. You are here to risk your heart. You are here to be swallowed up. And when it happens that you are broken, or betrayed, or left, or hurt, or death brushes near, let yourself sit by an apple tree and listen to the apples falling all around you in heaps, wasting their sweetness. Tell yourself you tasted as many as you could. — , The Painted Drum : A Novel
