Meet KC

by Shane Holden on July 3, 2011

KC, aka Zee, is the newest addition to the Holden family.  We found him about 10 days ago underneath the hood of the car, and he’s still here, so he’s definitely staying.  He is soo friendly and just loves attention!  I wish he’d stay small, but by the looks of his paws, he’s going to be a huge cat.  I love the little guy!

Cat In A Box

by Shane Holden on January 23, 2010

My cat must find a sense of security and safety by hiding out in baskets or boxes around the house.  This is a picture of her that I found on my camera that I took a couple of months ago.  She will usually find a box and make it her hangout for a while, so if we get to looking for her, as long as the box hasn’t been moved or thrown away, it’s almost a give-me that she will be in there asleep.

My Cat’s New Hangout

by Shane Holden on July 14, 2009

My cat doesn’t seem to mind music blaring from the speakers, a bright screen, or the keyboard clicking as I type, in the place that she has most recently made her new hangout.  There’s a cubbyhole type area next to the screen that is supposed to be like storage for CDs or something that she usually will sleep in.  But lately she has got to where she likes to stand in front of the screen, and eventually getting sleepy and looking like she does in the pic.  Ignore the dust please.

A Fixed Cat is a Happy Cat

by Shane Holden on March 9, 2008

Last monday, a week from tomorrow, we took our girl cat to the vet and got her fixed.  I worried about her the whole day while she was gone because I know that sometimes things go wrong.  Well we got her back that night and I can only imagine how bad she felt.  She was ill as a hornet!  That entire night she would just growl and hiss if you tried to pet her or just touch her to check up on her.  This lady at work told us that once they are fixed, they become sweeter.  Well she wasn’t kidding at all.  Every since she recouped from the surgery and the shock of it all, she has become incredibly sweet.  She was a nice cat before, friendly, like to be held and all that jazz, but now, it’s like she can’t get enough affection from anybody.  She seriously will follow whoever is in the house around and meow trying to get you to pet or hold her :)

Just Some Updates

by Shane Holden on February 27, 2008

Unfortunately I’m back in the office now :( Field work just doesn’t seem to last long enough.  We managed to GPS close to 200 different track intersections over the last few days.  The only one that we needed to get that we didn’t, was on the interestate at a point that has a narrow shoulder and is at the very end of the on-ramp.  My brother and I both came to the decision that we don’t get paid enough to risk getting nailed trying to collect that one.  The traffic on I-75 is like always 80+, so that one was kind of on the dangerous side.

Excerpts from a Cat’s Diary

Day 983 of my captivity.

My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects.

They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and I are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets. Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength. The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape.

Pet Rules

by Shane Holden on January 10, 2008

To be posted VERY LOW on the refrigerator door – nose height.

Dear Dogs and Cats,

The dishes with the paw print are yours and contain your food. The other dishes are mine and contain my food. Please note, placing a paw print in the middle of my plate and food does not stake a claim for it becoming your food and dish, nor do I find that aesthetically pleasing in the slightest.

The stairway was not designed by NASCAR and is not a racetrack. Beating me to the bottom is not the object. Tripping me doesn’t help because I fall faster than you can run.

Why I Dislike Stray Cats

by Shane Holden on January 8, 2008

Keep in mind that I have 2 dogs and 2 cats, so I very much do like animals.  But these stray cats I don’t get at all, and now very much dislike them.  Apparently the last time someone was out in the garage, and shut the door and left, some stray kitty, or cat by the look of the pile, decided that since it was ‘trapped’ inside of the garage that it would use the bathroom in there.  And I’m not kidding, of all of the other possible places that is in there that it could possibly take a poo, this little guy decided

We do not believe in ourselves until someone reveals that deep inside us something is valuable, worth listening to, worthy of our trust, sacred to our touch. Once we believe in ourselves we can risk curiosity, wonder, spontaneous delight or any experience that reveals the human spirit. — E. E. Cummings
