Twenty-Six

by Shane Holden on February 8, 2011

Wow—to say this past year has flown by would be an absolute understatement.

I woke up to an inbox of messages on Facebook wishing me a Happy Birthday, with every single one of them giving me a reason to smile on a day that I truly dislike.  Dad was the first this morning to give me a hug while wishing me Happy Birthday, a thing that Mom was always the first to do since she was always up first.  Missing her makes today especially tough for me because God I missed seeing her this morning before work so much, smiling and making comments about how old her boys are now or how she’s going to make us a cake for our Birthdays.

Anyways, I’m now officially closer to 30 than I am 20, and that fact I don’t like.  But as with most things in life I’ve learned, there’s nothing you can do about that but just accept the fact of it.

One Good Thing About Upcoming Birthdays

by Shane Holden on February 1, 2011

Possibly one of the only good things about upcoming birthdays (I hate them) is all of the free meals that your inbox gets flooded with for the month of your birthday, including but definitely not limited to, free ribs.  Yum.

Mom’s Surprise Party

by Shane Holden on April 3, 2010

Mom’s 57th birthday was on Wednesday, and since this one was in a way very special, we all planned a surprise party at Billy & Alicia’s for her.  They did most of everything, and me and Chase had the task of getting her there.  We invited her brother and sisters, and their children and their children as well.  All in all we had about 19 or 20 people there.  Mom was completely surprised, and told us on the way home that was the first time she has been able to cry since her surgery.  Mom made a little speech during it before anyone left that would make your eyes tear up, but she said that the party and seeing everyone together was a prayer answered for her.  There has been some feuds between some of the siblings, and she never expected everyone to get back together for a holiday or birthday ever again like we all used to at Christmas when my Grandma was still alive.  It went great, and everyone had a great time reminiscing and catching up on each others lives.

Twenty-Five

by Shane Holden on February 9, 2010

Yesterday I officially became a quarter of a century old.  I now get a slight bit of a break on auto insurance and can now rent rental cars without paying those ridiculous fees for being under 25.

Twenty-Four was an okay year.  Almost identical to the previous few, but hopefully Twenty-Five will prove to be much better.  It’s already starting off with a horrible beginning, but hopefully that just means it has no where to go but up from there.  Although I must acknowledge that when you think things cannot possibly get any worse, they can.  As well as when you think things can’t get any better, they can.

I have been dreading this birthday rolling around for quite some time, mostly because I am disappointed with myself for not being where I thought I would be in life at this age.  I would have expected to be married and own my own place by now, but things just haven’t worked out like I had planned out in my head so many years ago.  The day came and went, almost as if it was just another day and the age change just hasn’t bothered me like I thought it once would.  And I know this is completely because of the circumstances that surround my mom.

Twenty-Four

by Shane Holden on February 8, 2009

Today I turned 24 years old. 24 isn’t really one of those milestone numbers – no big discounts on insurance or anything, but it is something different to get used to saying. I’m really surprised at how fast this past year of being 23 has seemed to have gone by, but looking back on it, it was a great year.

The day started off with my mom making me and Chase a delicious homemade red velvet cake for our birthdays. It was 71° outside today, so I took about an hour ride with my dad and brother on our bikes to enjoy the warmth. And then this afternoon, Billy and Alicia (my oldest brother and sister-in-law) took me and Chase out to eat at Sticky Fingers for some ribs and to spend some time together. So with all that, I had a great birthday! :)

So Friday Was My B-Day

by Shane Holden on February 10, 2008

So friday was my birthday, and I’m officially 23 now  lol.  I don’t like birthdays at all and they totally come around faster now it seems.  But friday was really just another day.  My oldest bro and SIL took me and my bro out for lunch since it was our birthdays.  It was great to get to spend the lunch hour with them and just chill and talk about things.

Mine and Chase’s birthday is on the 8th, and my oldest brother’s is on the 11th.  So my parents took all of us

Looking At Time In Numbers

by Shane Holden on January 31, 2008

Today is a very slow day here at work, so I’m rather bored.  And as my birthday rapidly approaches, :( , I often wonder where the time has gone.  So in doing that, I figured I would break out the ole calculator and just get an idea of things.  Some of the numbers are eye opening of how quickly 10 minutes here, and 15 minutes there quickly add up.
