I was raised with a smoker, and our concern at the time was my father's health. But you are right, until more recent awareness, smokers didn't really think about how they were polluting other people's air. I don't smoke myself, and don't care to visit establishments that allow it. I'm glad my state has a similar ordinance to yours.
