Power Outages Aren’t Cool

by Shane Holden – June 20, 2011

Saturday afternoon we had a storm blow through our area that had some crazy hard winds along with it. We lost a few large limbs (6 inch diameter) from some of the pine tress we have out front, one tree across the backyard fence, hundreds and hundreds of pine cones in the yard, and a snapped power pole that’s in our front yard. We spent almost the entire day yesterday working in the yard trying to restore it to what it had previously been. Supposedly, the latest estimate has us getting power back today at lunch, which will make going home nice since we’ve now been powerless for going on 2 days now.

You get so used to the convenience of seeing when it’s dark, warm showers, decent temperature at night, that when you lose it, it’s hard not to find yourself flicking light switches when you go into rooms, and wishing you could stay cool when it’s time for bed.  I really don’t know what’s worse, power outage in the summer or winter.  It’s a tossup.
