After a few year hiatus, Chase and I got up this morning and went up to Rod Run in Pigeon Forge. On the way up, it seemed like the trip would be a bust, between the feeling of nostalgia for the trips up when we had friends to go with and the gloomy overcast skies. But a friendly comment from the girl at the McDonald’s that we stopped at to get breakfast helped brighten the trip up. When we got there, the sun burned off the overcast skies rather quickly, and it ended up being a beautiful day up there.
We spent most of the time riding around and had planned to leave around 10PM so that we could get home at a decent time, but due to the traffic heading into Pigeon Forge from Gatlinburg, we weren’t able to leave until about 1. Which ended up turning out great. While we were sitting in traffic, I noticed the girl next to us was obviously having a bad day while she was talking on her phone. I typed up “BAD NIGHT ?” on my phone and held it up for her to read since her window was up, and we started talking. I could tell that she was a bit surprised by someone starting a conversation with her in traffic, since she had no desire at all to be at Rod Run, but I could also tell that she appreciated it. She was even more surprised that I let her borrow a CD to check out a band that I think she will enjoy while we were talking about music. I had planned on exchanging info with her the next time that we pulled up next to her, but due to the jerks behind and around us, that opportunity unfortunately never did arise. She must have reached her turn-off before we could talk again. But even with that, talking to her and helping brighten her horrible evening was the highlight of the day, as it brightened my day as well.
There didn’t seem to be as many cars there as I remember, although it has been a few years since going. But for the ones that were there, they were beautiful as usual. For some reason I didn’t feel very comfortable taking pictures of the cars, due to the owners sitting in front of them to watch people ride by, and the feeling that people were staring at Chase and I because we are twins.
