Cloudland Connector Trail

by Shane Holden – March 8, 2012

If you’re in the Cloudland Canyon area of Walker County and enjoy hiking, I’d recommend checking out the Cloudland Connector Trail. It’s located off of Ascalon Rd (between Hwy 157 & Hwy 189) near the Dade/Walker County line. It crosses over Hwy 157 and currently ends on Nick-a-jack Rd. From what I understand, it’s intention is to connect the Chattanooga area to Cloudland Canyon Start Park once it’s finished. The short piece that we walked was beautiful and very well laid out. I’m hoping to get back over there soon and check out every bit of what’s been finished.

Today, I Voted…

by Shane Holden – March 6, 2012

Today, I voted against endless, undeclared wars.
Today, I voted to reduce our nation’s debt.
Today, I voted to reign in the powers of the federal government.
Today, I voted to protect my civil liberties.
Today, I voted to bring transparency to the Federal Reserve.

Today, I voted for Ron Paul!

R3VOLUTION Day

by Shane Holden – March 3, 2012

As a last push effort before Super Tuesday to help get Ron Paul’s name out there to the locals, and get as many people that may just see the name on the ballot on Tuesday and vote for him from seeing some guys waving signs at a busy intersection, I took part in R3VOLUTION Day today.

R3VOLUTION Day is:

  1. Grab your Ron Paul gear and wear it with PRIDE!!! Hats, shirts, buttons, whatever!
  2. Commit to sign wave for Ron Paul for at least 1 hour in your hometown.
  3. Let’s prove once and for all that Ron Paul has a huge support base and we are willing to work for it!

People generally vote based on name recognition. Let’s make sure EVERYONE recognizes THIS name by Super Tuesday!

I really didn’t know what to expect at first, the reactions or whatnot, but I’m telling you, as soon as people start honking and waving, giving you thumbs-up, you really do start to have a good time. We got countless positive reactions, and probably just a couple of people giving us the finger—telling on themselves obviously for who they voted for in ’08. One lady wanted to have an argument/discussion on giving Obama more time to fix the problems with the country. Naturally, she was close-minded and wouldn’t even listen to the fact that Ron Paul wants to CUT spending, not increase it.

Link to a Specific Time on Youtube

by Shane Holden – February 27, 2012

I’m all the time sending YouTube videos that may only have a relevant or specific part that I want to show someone. Instead of having to tell them where to skip forward to, it turns out to be pretty easy to set the video to start at that specific time instead.

Just add #t=XmXs to the end of the url, replacing each X with the time you desire—the first X for the minute and second X for the second.

For example, if I were wanting to link to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-ONhpNeWQA and wanted to show you the segment that starts at 28:40, the url would look like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-ONhpNeWQA#t=28m40s

Proving Yourself With Knowledge

by Shane Holden – February 27, 2012

At work at times, it feels like it’s easier for people to dismiss my views politically just because of the age difference with myself and those that tend to have that type of discussion. But I have found that by expanding what I know by reading, studying, and really digging into the historical facts and learning the whys behind certain aspects or events, I immediately gain quite a bit of respect when I let some of my knowledge flow during these types of debates/discussions. It’s not just having an opinion and sticking by it, but having facts and reasons that back up that opinion.

N64 Fun

Chase & I just broke out the ole N64 and killed an easy 3 hours on Perfect Dark. That’s the longest I’ve played video games in years—tons of fun though!

by Shane Holden – February 19, 2012

We do not believe in ourselves until someone reveals that deep inside us something is valuable, worth listening to, worthy of our trust, sacred to our touch. Once we believe in ourselves we can risk curiosity, wonder, spontaneous delight or any experience that reveals the human spirit. — E. E. Cummings
