I took advantage of some more of my leave time at work last Wednesday-Friday to help do a new job and help complete a couple of others for my brother. This had me spending all day Wednesday in Knoxville, TN, Thursday in Maiden, NC, and Friday in Hoover, AL. So that was quite a bit of hours including covering quite a bit of miles between the three places.
On Friday it was all three of us going in to complete a job that we had already done the first stage on a few weeks ago. We got in at a good time, had a good superintendent to work with, and apart from having to deal with some itchy insulation, it went very well.
For dinner we all decided that we’d try out a place that I had never heard of before, Ted’s Montana Grill. By the name you’d imagine a sports bar type place; a place where everyone would be casually dressed. As we walked in we were quick to decide that was not the case. The atmosphere was more like one that would be a nice place to take a date to, not loud and rowdy, but more quiet and secluded. Regardless, we stayed and had dinner there. Dinner for me was a Bison Burger with American Cheese, served on a Kaiser bun with a side of fries. This was the second time I’ve had bison before, and it was delicious. Interestingly enough, the waiter explained that bison is naturally resistant to bacteria like e-coliform, so the less from well done that it’s cooked, the juicer and more flavorful it would be.
Ted’s Montana Grill surprisingly is owned by Ted Turner. And as we were told, owns a strip of land from Mexico to Canada that has free range bison roaming it, which is where the bison meat comes from for their menu.
Probably one of the most interesting things about this place was the use of paper straws. According to the wrapper they are “Earth Friendly.” I assume this is because they are not a plastic product. Apart from them sometimes sticking to your lips, they perform just like your average plastic straw. I would have thought that a paper straw would get soggy and collapse, but I guess not.

How beautifully you write about your travels, Shane. You do get around. I know it’s for work, a lot of the time, but you get to see such interesting things in the process. The restaurant sounds awesome, and I didn’t know these things about Mr. Turner—what a great education.
PS-I like that you included the map. Really gives a sense of the magnitude of your travels. I think paper straws were around long before the plastic ones. Good to see they are friendly.
Thank you! That’s really what I enjoy so much about the travels for work. Such neat things out there to see and check out between the points. I had no idea that paper straws were out before plastic, that’s neat to know! Glad to enjoyed the map! I like to include them to show the actual distance between the cities and to kind of keep up with where all I’ve been
Hey man the other day I was using a paper straw and the thing got stuck together and I couldent drink from it anymore, from that point on I never took plastic straws for granet
Thanks for dropping by man! We must have just not been there long enough for the straws to fail on any of us. The idea is neat, I’ll definitely give it that, but it sounds to me like a plastic straw is totally hard to beat. There’s no way they will get stuck together or get soggy if it takes you a while to drink your drink
