My ‘Monster Jam’ Experience

Monster Jam was incredible in person.  Yesterday at about 6 o’clock we headed down to the Georgia Dome in ATL to watch Monster Jam.  I’ve never been inside the Georgia Dome before but it was incredibly huge.  There were about 70,000 other people there as well to watch the show.

We had just sat down in our seats when the shows was just about to begin.  I was impressed w/ the ceremony dedicated to those that serve or have served the country and the singing of the National Anthem.  The first pic shows 4 marines doing their part of the ceremony.

When the trucks fired up it was extremely loud, close to that of top fuel drag cars, and was loud while they were doing their entire races.  I think there were a total of 6 races around the track and in between some of the brackets they had some entertainment type races to give them time to get things set up.  These were a few races w/ cars and trucks around the dirt track, and then they got about 40 racing four-wheelers out there and let them race a few laps around the track.

After the races were over each truck came out one at a time for their freestyle competition.  Each truck got 90 seconds to impress the judges as much as possible.  The judges they had picked sucked and did some terrible ratings IMO.  All of the trucks but one, I think it was, broke something while doing the freestyle or either rolled it over.  The coolest thing was either the jump done in reverse or either this one truck that broke one of his rear wheels completely off still proceeded to do some massive donuts w/ just the three wheels left.  It was awesome.

We took the camera to get some pics, but forgot to clean off the memory card from Christmas pictures :(  So we only managed to get 11 shots that are pretty decent, but they are nothing like it was in person.  Also have a very short clip of them getting ready for a race.

If you’ve ever watched monster trucks on TV and liked it, you need to go to one live!  I wouldn’t go hungry or thirsty though, a coke will set you back about $4 and a cheeseburger was $8.  Talk about price gouging in the Dome.
