Memorial Week Plans

I’ve got my leave request filled out for Tuesday-Friday after Memorial Day weekend and will turn it in today for approval.

My parents are building them a new place in McCaysville Georgia, a very small town about 60 or so miles away from here, so that whenever my dad retires they can move over there and live. They are both from around that area, and love the feeling of a small town rather than Dalton. Dalton’s cons for them are: having just a half acre lot, living in a subdivision, neighbors that have drinking parties and have their music playing til way late at night, gangs, gang graffiti, traffic, etc… I’m used to all of that, but they love McCaysville so much better.

Anyways, my dad, brothers and I are all taking off that entire week to frame up and dry in the place. I’m so excited to be off from work for an entire week, and to also spend it giving my dad a hand. It’s going to be very neat to see the complete transformation of going from just the current foundation, basement walls, and sub-floor, to becoming the actual structure. I’ve got my fingers crossed for a sunny and hot week that week, so we’ll see how that goes.  Thanks to it being a holiday weekend, we should have 9 days to work given it doesn’t rain any.

I’m very happy for them to finally be in the position to build them their dream place, which actually is going to be smaller than our house now, naturally since they will be empty nesters then. I’ve just got to get my butt in gear and figure my deal out, so that when they are ready to move away I don’t become homeless lol
