Looking At Time In Numbers

by Shane Holden – January 31, 2008

Today is a very slow day here at work, so I’m rather bored.  And as my birthday rapidly approaches, :( , I often wonder where the time has gone.  So in doing that, I figured I would break out the ole calculator and just get an idea of things.  Some of the numbers are eye opening of how quickly 10 minutes here, and 15 minutes there quickly add up.

I’ve worked here for 6 years, but at the start I was only doing half days because I was still in High School.  So I’m going to figure it as 5 full time years.  5 years at 7.5 hours a day, I’ve been in this building or on the clock at least for 9,750 hrs.  Which is 406 24-hr days.  I have to take a 1 hour lunch, whether I use it or not, so there is another 54 24-hr days.

On average you get 8 hours of sleep a night.  So naturally that is going to be 1/3 of your age, so for me that is 67,160 hrs, or 2,798.3 full 24-hr days.

So for school, I’m going with 14 years because I did take some classes at the local college.  It adds up to 20,160 hours, or 840 24-hr days.

I’ve been alive for ~8,395 days.
School = 10%
Work + Lunch = 5.5%
Sleep = 33.3%

So I can account for ~1/2 of my life, not so sure about the rest :lol:

And for a funny one, my brother runs service and has been in his truck for 187.5 24-hr days and has used 17,307 gallons of fuel :lol:

But really that is an interesting way to look at things.  Imagine what % watching TV would be, or sitting in traffic, or heck, even eating.

    Marsha – I figured that out as well for me. It’s kind of scary that I’ve stared at this screen that long :lol:

Got something to say?! Go for it!
