Yesterday I signed up for an account at SocialVibe, which is social network that allows you to raise money for causes that you want to support by choosing a sponsor and displaying a badge of that sponsor that they give you.  I’m not a huge ad guy, so i like to avoid them as much as possible to avoid disrupting the time spent here for my visitors.  But at the same time, this type of advertising has sort of drawn me to it.  I think it’s the idea of taking something that you have, and using it to help enrich or improve someone else’s life or quality of life.

Personally I think the added social network aspect of it may be a bit much, as I’m already a member of the large well known ones, and really don’t need yet another one.  But if that’s what it takes to keep them running and around, I’m for it.

I joined the cause charity: water

charity: water is a non-profit providing safe clean drinking water to people in developing nations. 1 in 6 people on the planet don’t have clean water to drink.  Dirty water and a lack of basic sanitation kills 4,500 children every day.  We’re trying to change that.

Their current goal is:

Build a Well in Haiti – Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. Almost half of the people drink from dirty sources of water and about one-third of all Haitian children die before reaching the age of five years old. Because of the lack of roads, transporting supplies is extremely difficult and costly. With your help, we can earn enough free donations to bring clean water to a community that desperately needs it!

They have lots of other charities and causes to support.  The water one just appealed to me because water is essential for life, and it’s ashame that something that is so basic and taken for granted by most of us every single day is unavailable to others.

Newcomers should see an ad of my sponsor(s) on the right hand side of my blog, while my regular visitors won’t.  My blog will obviously only help minimally, but as with most all charities, any help at all is always appreciated.
