I don't know how they do it, but they do a darn good job for sure. The worst part about it really was the hassle of them closing that card out, sending me a new one, and then having to add it into all of the places where I use it to pay things online. The only good thing about it though was me not being liable for it :) You're right, that wasn't very creative at all! There are so many places that ask for passwords and personal information online and by phone. The fraud detection is amazing, though isn't it? I had one where people had charged several meals in San Diego---where I hadn't been---and I thought "that's not very creative; they could have charged a big screen tv or something, but all they did was dinner at Appleby's"! :) I think you are wise to call back and verify with the official number.
