Cloudland Canyon 10.18.09
Today my family and I went and spent some time hiking in Cloudland Canyon State Park. Starting out on the east rim it was rather cold, but as we descended down into the canyon, the walls helped block the cold wind and it ended up feeling pretty nice. We chose the Sitton’s Gulch Trail to get some nice photos of the waterfalls and to see and hear the water. According to the map, the trail was 6.5 miles long and had 1200 stair steps. Everyone made it down to the bottom and saw the beautiful waterfalls and boulders/rocks along the trail. Chase and I continued past where they decided to rest and went all the way around the loop at the end and then hiked back, giving us a look at the entire trail. On the way back we saw some signs written from soapstone that my dad carries, which gave us a good laugh. Everyone had a great time, enjoyed taking pictures and seeing all of the beautiful scenery along the way. We thought when we left that the leaves would have been more colorful than they were, but the peak must be another week or so away. Next time I’d really like to take the West Rim Loop Trail and see what the canyon looks like from the other side.
