Census Worker Interview

by Shane Holden – July 10, 2010
  • Census Worker: Heres a pamphlet basically saying that any info you give me will be confidential, and I cannot share it with anyone including the IRS, or I will be in trouble, for 72 years, which I most likely won’t even be alive then.
  • Me: Okay.
  • Census Worker: How many people live here?
  • Me: Four
  • Census Worker: Is there any possibility that anyone here could have been counted in another location, like a vacation home, etc.?
  • Me: No.
  • Census Worker: Was there anyone living here, or homeless people, that may have been counted when the survey was first conducted in April?
  • Me: No.
  • Census Worker: What are the relationships of each?
  • Me: Mother, Father, Two Sons
  • Census Worker: What are the first name, middle initial, last names?
  • Me: I thought the only thing I had to tell you was the number of people?
  • Census Worker: That’s ok, we can skip that one.  What are the birthdays for each of the people living here, or the ages?
  • Me: How about we skip that one too.
  • Census Worker: Okay, how would you best describe the races of the people living here?
  • Me: Caucasian
  • Census Worker: Does this residence currently have a mortgage, or is it paid off?
  • Me: Lets skip that one too.
