Memorial Week Plans

by Shane Holden on May 12, 2008

I’ve got my leave request filled out for Tuesday-Friday after Memorial Day weekend and will turn it in today for approval.

My parents are building them a new place in McCaysville Georgia, a very small town about 60 or so miles away from here, so that whenever my dad retires they can move over there and live. They are both from around that area, and love the feeling of a small town rather than Dalton. Dalton’s cons for them are: having just a half acre lot, living in a subdivision, neighbors that have drinking parties and have their music playing til way late at night, gangs, gang graffiti, traffic, etc… I’m used to all of that, but they love McCaysville so much better.

My Latest Afternoon Project

by Shane Holden on February 20, 2008

In our house, upstairs we have a 2nd bathroom.  Which actually has always been more of a bathroom-to-be.  It’s always been unfinished for as long as I can remember, just an empty room, no sheetrock or anything.  It would have been nice to have been complete when we were younger, but due to other things and of course work, my parents never had the time to do it.

Project Drywall – Progress Pictures

by Shane Holden on December 30, 2007

I’ve finally got around to posting up some progress pictures from my buddy’s basement drywall project.  We’re actually quite a bit further than these show since we worked about 6 more hours on Saturday on it.

We moved the vent from the laundry room to the main larger room since it would be more effective there, and we also have 2 of the 4 windows trimmed out with the sheetrock.  J-Bead is being used on the inside edge that is against the window so that once some white caulk is applied it will provid a very clean finished look.

Saturday plans

by Shane Holden on December 14, 2007

I got a txt message from my buddy yesterday saying that he was going to be around until 2:45PM on Saturday, and if me and my bro was up to it, we could meet up early and work on the wall project before he has to go to work.  My answer was “we’re definately game.”  I think we’ll try to meet up around 7:00AM and start

Drywall project, Day 1

by Shane Holden on December 9, 2007

Saturday turned out really well.  We started the day by stopping by Home Depot to pick up the rest of the drywall, 42 more sheets, and a concrete drill bit to use to anchor some 2x4s to the block wall.  As you can see in the pics below, we needed to attach some 1×4 strips to the wall to leave spacing behind the drywall for any moisture that might occur, and also to attach the drywall on that bottom portion using screws.

Saturday project…begin drywall

by Shane Holden on December 7, 2007

Home DepotHeading to Home Depot after work w/ one of my buddies and my brother.  His basement isn’t fully finished and needs to be drywalled to finish it up.  So we’ll be picking up all the 2×4 studs and all of the sheetrock that will be needed to get this project going.  There’s 3 rooms in there, which all need the walls and the ceiling to have drywall in place.
