Pepsi Instead of Coke, Since When?!

by Shane Holden on April 11, 2012

It’s true, all of my eating out at places like Arby’s, that serve the Pepsi product line-up have gotten me onto the Pepsi kick. If I stop at a store to pick up a drink, it’ll still either be a Green Tea or Sweet Tea, or Coke. So it’s not that I really prefer Pepsi over Coke now at all, but at home, if I’m drinking a soft drink, chances are it’s Pepsi now. Mostly because my brother and I have gotten to where we split a can so that we’re drinking less cokes when there’s not any tea or juices around, so when you pour it into a cup it really doesn’t taste all that different any more. Plus, CVS runs a killer sale on them really regularly, and it’s hard to beat something like 5 12-packs for $12.

Made Some Gravy

by Shane Holden on January 1, 2012

I’ve never really been much of a breakfast eater, nor much of a cook. But most of the times that I do remember eating breakfast, it was a homemade breakfast of biscuits, bacon, sausage, and of course gravy. It’s been well over a year now since I’ve had something that would even resemble in the slightest my Mom’s breakfast that she used to cook. So this may have taken 4 tries to get it right, but the gravy that Chase and I both had a hand in making this morning, was perfect!

Dear Zaxby’s

by Shane Holden on August 1, 2011

Your chain was becoming a regular in my weekly lunch routine, until the Chicken Parmesan Sandwich was discontinued, again. It’s not that I don’t necessarily like anything else you have to offer, it’s just that up against the other choices for lunch, the other places win out now that you don’t have my sandwich anymore. I was eating at Zaxby’s at least once a week when I had first realized that you re-introduced the sandwich again, for weeks on end until I was in the middle of getting that sandwich when it was broken to me that they were now out of it and it’s done. The approach of making it Zaxby’s “McRib” is entertaining, but you can surely see my point.

Your latest attempt at a replacement sandwich, the Sweet & Smoky Sandwich, while is appreciated, didn’t even hold up at all when I tried it.  I was optimisticly hoping that I would find it as appealing as the Chicken Parmesan Sandwich, and must admit that maybe it was because I had it on my mind, but it just didn’t compare.

One Good Thing About Upcoming Birthdays

by Shane Holden on February 1, 2011

Possibly one of the only good things about upcoming birthdays (I hate them) is all of the free meals that your inbox gets flooded with for the month of your birthday, including but definitely not limited to, free ribs.  Yum.

Snow Cream

by Shane Holden on January 17, 2011

Undoubtedly one of the best things about snow in the south is snow cream.  I can’t remember how we made it when we were kids, but the way we did it this time wasn’t bad.  Actually it was good enough to put some extra snow in the freezer for another batch once we’re out.

Snow Cream:

1 cup sugar
1 cup milk
1 egg

You mix all of those together really well and then just mix snow in until it became about the consistancy of ice cream.  Some recipes include Vanilla flavoring, but I couldn’t find it to use.

Awesome Way To Eat Cupcakes

by Shane Holden on August 21, 2010

Credit goes to the guy that played one of my favorite LOST characters, Jorge Garcia.  You simply tear the bottom half off of the cupcake and press it into the icing on top.  And voilà!, a cream filled cake!

Domino’s New Recipe

by Shane Holden on March 3, 2010

For the record, when I gave Domino’s new pizza recipe a try a month or so ago, I loved it!  I’ve read some things where people say it’s the same old pizza, but I noticed a big difference, a good one, as soon as I tried a slice.  Like most people, the crust isn’t my favorite part.  Why should it be really—it’s just bread.  But the added garlic butter on it made it delicious and much more enjoyable.  Now they just need to do something similar to Little Caesar’s Hot-N-Ready pizza, so you don’t have to make that call in anymore and have to wait.

The decision to change was no doubt a huge gamble-one that could have potentially been as big of a flop as Coca-Cola changing their ingredients back in the day.  But when you read the news with excerpts like the following, it’s hard not to say they won that bet.

Chick-fil-A Milkshake

by Shane Holden on December 30, 2009

Back in November, I was lucky and won another Chick-fil-A Twitter contest.  This time it was for a milkshake, which I’ve never had before, even as often as I go.  They not only look nice, being topped with whipped cream and a cherry, but they are delicious!  It was hands-down one of the best milkshakes I’ve ever had!  When I think of shakes, I usually think of Steak ‘n Shake, but not any more.  They’ve got some serious competition now.  The free one from the contest has sold me on them, not to mention I like the way Chick-fil-A runs and it’s ethics.

Won Some Chick-Fil-A

by Shane Holden on November 19, 2009

I usually don’t have any luck at all at winning anything, but today I actually did.  I just happened to check my Twitter account after lunch to see what was happening, saw the question posted from Chick-Fil-A, did a little quick math, and low and behold, I won!  There must have been some way off answers seeing as how I won with being off a few billion, but I was very surprised to see my name on there.

Potato Bin Results

by Shane Holden on August 21, 2009

I wish it had turned out like it should have, but what the bins yielded wasn’t even worth taking a picture of.  I am pretty sure this is completely due to the potato that we used.  It appeared to have only made potatoes at the very bottom, which leads me to believe that this type obviously wasn’t the type that would grow more roots as it grew taller after covering it with more dirt.  Next time I will do some searching on the correct type to use instead of just what we had here at home.  So the experiment was ultimately a failure, but a good learning experience nonetheless.
