Busy Busy Week

by Shane Holden – July 4, 2008

I’ve had this entire week off to help try to catch my brother up on his work, and we have been running on little sleep but knocking stuff out.

On Monday, we started the day by driving down to Suwanee, Georgia.  I had never been there before, but from the little bit that we got to see, it was a neat clean city.  Of course being down towards where it was, Atlanta, traffic was pretty heavy thoroughout the whole time we were there.  What I liked about it, they had the Zoning Ordinances that restricted new buildings to all look similiar to the existing buildings rather than all being different with loud colors and such.  It also limited where the signs for businesses could go.  All of the buildings down there were a modern clean looking brown and tan brick and they all blended in nicely with each other.  So no eyesore looking businesses.

Tuesday was a job at a distribution center up in Knoxville, Tennessee.  On the way up there on I-75, traffic backed up in an unusual spot.  As we got closer to it, there were watermelons covering the northbound and southbound lanes.  We were the very last car that made it by, but a pickup pulling a trailer that was covered in watermelons had an accident.  The guy either nodded off and hit the center dividor or was cut off.  I’ve never really seen anyone in person that was hurt in an accident, but as we drove by the truck that was on it’s side, the guy was laying in the center of the interstate on his back with his leg moving.  The Fire Department and Police was already there, but I hope the guy and anyone else that may have been in the truck was okay.

Wednesday we ran into a snag on the job in Knoxville, so we headed back home to get some fresh clothes and to make the best of our time off from work, headed to Leland, North Carolina.  Leland was a 8-9hr drive from home, so that put us at getting there at 2AM.  We were just a few minutes from the beach but didn’t even have time to drive and look at it.

Somewhere in North Carolina on one of our pitstops there was this sign in the gas station window.  Talk about savings!!!

On Thursday we got up at like 7AM and headed to the job.  We ended up getting done about 7PM and drove the night home.  We finally made it home at 3:30AM.

It’s been a long week, but it’s been nice doing something completely different, plus I like windshield time :)
