I’m not sure why, but the idea of running an e-commerce website, one in which a product was produced and mailed out has always been an interest of mine. Partly because extra money is nice, but also because it’s nice to build something and see it grow. Back towards the end of High School, and the time that we took some classes at the local college, we ran an e-commerce site, but the part that it was lacking was the products. We essentially were distributors but had everything drop-shipped. It was fun, but it wasn’t long before it just became a hassle due to shipping costs, never being able to get them exact from the suppliers, suppliers dropping the ball on sending items out in a timely manner, etc.
I’ve been buried in a project now for nearly three months with my brother, and it’s working out like we have always wanted something like this to. We’re using WordPress to operate the site, using WooCommerce to pull in the store functions, and with just that, we’re beginning to see traffic from Google that is becoming more than just traffic—sales.
This project is how I’ve been spending a good bit of my spare time. It’s actually kind of frightening how quickly time passes when you get caught up in something. I may post some details about it at a later date, but that’s primarily why my blogging has lacked lately.
