I’m spending my evening watching the results for the New Hampshire Primary come in. It’s early, but we’re looking good so far.
I just love how things like this are almost hidden, leaving you with a virtually hidden tax(or tax increase, depending on how you look at it). In my case, the credit reduction was first discovered when I was filing my 940.
What is credit reduction? Any state that has not repaid money it borrowed from the federal government to pay unemployment benefits is subject to credit reduction. The Department of Labor determines what states will be subject to credit reduction. If an employer pays wages in a state that is subject to the unemployment tax laws of a credit reduction state, that employer must pay additional federal unemployment tax when filing its Form 940. This reduction is calculated using the Schedule A (Form 940).
For 2011, wages subject to the unemployment compensation laws of the State of AR, CA, CT, FL, GA, IL, IN, KY, MI, MN, MO, NC, NJ, NV, NY, OH, PA, RI, VA, Virgin Islands, and WI are subject to credit reduction.
Family photos are one of those things that everyone should always put more effort in on trying to make as many as possible, as often as possible. My family wasn’t the best at doing that, and sometimes they were last minute, but the ones that we do have, I just absolutely love.
What you see in the pictures below, is a canvas print of the last family photo I took before Mom passed away, courtesy of Easy Canvas Prints. It was taken on a Dad’s 60th birthday, on a complete whim.
This beauty is now hanging in a prominent place so that anyone that is over can see it. Everyone that’s seen it so far is amazed at the quality, and at how much nicer and unique it looks versus just framing a picture. The quality is unreal—the pictures don’t even do it justice. I had never seen a canvas print up close and in person, but this definitely won’t be my last one. And for someone that has a hard time with gifts, this is the perfect answer!
There’s a temporary all-way stop near the end of our street now, that’s turned into a really good place for those guys that walk up to every car with a bucket asking for money for who knows what kind of “charity.”
Today’s stop went something like this:
Really? That’s supposed to work using Jesus to get people to give you money? That’s wrong if you ask me.
It’s hard to believe that after leaving work today at 5PM, I will have completed 10 years of service here. I started as a Junior in High School, at 16, by choosing to take a class that allowed me to spend the time that would be spent for that class at school, at work. Over those years my job title has changed a number of times, responsibilities have increased, efficiency has grown incredibly, as well creativity in design. I’ve gone from feeling completely awkward in meetings, to feeling comfortable—unless I’m put on the spot unexpectedly (some things will never change). It’s been a great 10 years at my first job.
I think there comes a time when something goes from being an added convenience, to a complete addiction. Facebook gives too many people insight into others lives that they normally wouldn’t have without knowing or getting to know someone well. We know who is dating who, what someone’s siblings look like without ever seeing them, when someone is away from home, or how someone is doing without even asking them. It gives us an excuse not to contact someone. It disconnects relationships by removing the personal interaction that used to be required in order to know what’s going on in others lives.
It’s funny, we live our lives with just a few contacts of people that we care about and that care about us enough to keep in touch with via phone, email or messenger, either from work or school, but as soon as you have a Facebook, you get countless “friend requests” from people that you may not even remember. These are people that just recognize your name, and probably, truth be known, are just nosey of your life’s situation.
I’m so excited and can’t wait to watch the results of the Iowa Caucus come in tonight! I’m just hoping there isn’t any fraud with counting the votes. Go Ron Paul!
I’ve never really been much of a breakfast eater, nor much of a cook. But most of the times that I do remember eating breakfast, it was a homemade breakfast of biscuits, bacon, sausage, and of course gravy. It’s been well over a year now since I’ve had something that would even resemble in the slightest my Mom’s breakfast that she used to cook. So this may have taken 4 tries to get it right, but the gravy that Chase and I both had a hand in making this morning, was perfect!
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone near,
A little gift from one held dear,
Best wishes for the coming year.

All I ask is one thing, and I’m asking this particularly of young people: please don’t be cynical. I hate cynicism, for the record, it’s my least favorite quality and it doesn’t lead anywhere. Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you’re kind, amazing things will happen.
