Seeking the Truth – Who is Israel?

by Shane Holden on August 29, 2011

It’s often said that the United States will always stand with Israel. In fact, at the Ellijay town hall meeting, when Israel was mentioned, the older folks in the crowd applauded like it was the best thing they had heard all day. I’m trying my best to better understand the why behind the relationship, besides the usual “because they are God’s people.” I’m not questioning because I don’t believe, but rather I would like to see it in black and white to better understand the relationship.

My main piece of questioning comes from the fact that our nation’s leaders meddle around in the affairs of others endlessly, as well as launch preemptive and unjust wars in the name of spreading democracy, but in doing so kill millions of innocent men, women, and children. Yet no matter what, it’s said countless times that if Israel were to attack Iran or were to ever be attacked by anyone, the United States would join Israel and help. To me it seems kind of lop-sided that we’re going to do a wrong thing of killing innocent people while doing the “right” thing of standing with Israel.

Georgia GOP Fish Fry

by Shane Holden on August 27, 2011

Today, Chase & I went down to Perry, Ga with our buddy Jim to attend the Annual GA Republican Fish Fry. This was a new experience for all of us, one that we all enjoyed quite well. We got the opportunity to meet and talk with a lot of Ron Paul supporters as well as meet some higher up officials such as the former Governor of Georgia Sonny Perdue, and former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich. As we were walking through looking at all of the campaign tables and saw the supporters for each of the candidates, the one thing that we noticed was that the Ron Paul supporters were the most well-organized, enthusiastic, passionate, and friendliest group of any of the others there. And I’m proud that we are all a part of such a wonderful and passionate group of people.

Everyone that purchased a ticket got a free lunch, which consisted of catfish, fries, and slaw, as well as a ticket to vote for the candidate that you want to ultimately win the primary and become the Republican Nominee. Herman Cain came in 1st with 232 votes and Ron Paul came in 2nd with 229 votes. Not bad at all considering this is Cain’s home state and three votes is almost a statistical tie. The Revolution is growing, and with the time between now and the primaries, victory should be ours!

Yesterday’s Earthquake

by Shane Holden on August 24, 2011

I’ve spent quite a bit of time in the past few weeks, planning a return trip to DC. I need to get away again, and just let some of the things that’s going on at home go, even if for just a few days. Last time was a spur of the moment trip–a trip to see if it would be worth planning tours and such, which of course it would, but the reasoning fit perfectly at the time. I had no idea where to begin, but I got word from a friend that to plan a tour of the White House, you have to contact your Congressional Representative’s office, and they can set it up for you. I had already had tickets purchased to tour the Washington Monument, but while setting up other tours, they can easily move that time around to fit the scheduling. I was excited on Monday when I got a confirmation email with all of the tours and times that we are set up for: Washington Monument, White House, Supreme Court, Library of Congress, and the Capital.

My First Town Hall Meeting

by Shane Holden on August 20, 2011

The town hall meeting today with Georgia Senators Chambliss and Isakson was a very neat experience. I went with Chase and one of our friends, Jim. We all sported Ron Paul tees which attracted quite a bit of positive attention. Having never went to one, I wasn’t sure what it would be like, but as soon as we got there, I felt so much like I had done it many times before. We were greeted as we approached the school by some very friendly people from around the Gilmer County area. A lot of people seemed very surprised to see people our age there, and were excited to see it as well.

The Senators took quite a few questions, and also took quite a bit of criticism from some very angry constituents. As expected, on some questions that were addressed as ‘yes or no’ questions the Senators did what politicians do best, and water down the answer trying to get by without a one word answer. This angered someone in the crowd who made it known that he was not happy with the dodging of the question.

Ellijay Town Hall Meeting

I’m heading over to Ellijay to attend Senator Isakson and Senator Chambilss’ town hall meeting. This is my first one, so it should be a neat experience. Isakson sold us all out on the debt ceiling vote, so it’s going to be interesting to hear his defense of voting for the increase.

Built a New Gate

by Shane Holden on August 17, 2011

The gate going into the backyard has been in need of some work for a while. My parents originally used treated wood for the bracing part, which worked great for probably the last 10 years, but time and weather has caused it to warp up and drag across the concrete when opening it. So this afternoon we’ve rebuilt the gate using all cedar wood and screws instead of nails. This baby shuts so easily now, and with a little time to let the weather color it, will blend in and look awesome. Next up is replacing the rails that are between the posts along the rest of the fence that is also treated.

Sleeping So Lightly

by Shane Holden on August 16, 2011

Feeling tired throughout the day, and never feeling like I am rested, I think is partly due to my recent move of sleeping lightly. It’s definitely not a change that I wanted, because I hate it! Every single thing wakes me up during the night, and it’s killing me.

I can’t go to sleep if anyone is up watching TV in the living room, because I find myself tuning into the audio, trying to figure out what the picture would be looking like or try to figure out what exactly is on.

Our dogs are on a scratching kick, where they just can’t seem to soothe an itch, so they are constantly scratching or chewing. They’ve had flea treatments, so that’s not really a problem. The only problem is the slight scratch, no matter how light, wakes me up every time. And only me!

We have some new neighbors that apparently have half a dozen dogs. Most of these dogs live outside, and bark at anything and everything! So needless to say, during the night, they bark, then our dogs start barking, and I’m wide awake.

Read: End The Fed

by Shane Holden on August 15, 2011

End The Fed by Ron Paul

Four years ago, the Federal Reserve was completely unheard of in the news.  Now that’s absolutely not the case.  Thanks to the awakening of the masses of how much this private institution is effecting our nation daily, it’s becoming the heart of the talks of our nation’s problems, as it rightfully should be.  Simply put, without the Federal Reserve, your dollar would buy more, we wouldn’t be extending ourselves into pointless nation-building wars, and we wouldn’t be faced with bubbles such as the housing bubble that has put so many in forclosure.
