Walking The Talk

Ron Paul End of Quarter Push Donation
It’s quite a while until the 2012 elections, but like Ron Paul mentioned recently in a video, the money raised during this time is worth 5x that that’s raised towards the end.  So knowing that, I proudly made a donation towards Liberty today!  It’s time to beat the establishment!

Read: The Revolution, A Manifesto

by Shane Holden on June 30, 2011

The Revolution, A Manifesto by Ron Paul

I definitely recommend this book to anyone (so everyone) that enjoys the freedoms (even if they are ever decreasing) that we all have and anyone that would like to open their eyes to some of the truths that are always bent or portrayed falsely by our misleading media.

The events that we’re experiencing now, have been, and will be in the near future, are waking people up.  And I can only hope that between now and the 2012 elections, this awakening continues to spread at a pace that’s even greater than the greatness that it is today.  I encourage everyone to read up on the Federal Reserve, inflation, and our failed policies, both foreign and domestic, of the past century, and realize that we simply cannot continue on the path that we are with more and more empty promises and so called change.  The only change that we need now, is to limit the Government’s role in our lives and constrain it back down to it’s limited role as defined in the Constitution.

Bittersweet Encounters

by Shane Holden on June 29, 2011

This is the gist of a quick redlight conversation with the car next to us on the way home from work today:

  • Man: Hey, is Rosie your Mom?
  • Me: Yep, sure is.
  • Lady: Is Bill your Dad?
  • Me: Yep.
  • Man: We used to work with your Mom.
  • Me: Oh really? That’s awesome!
  • Man: Tell her we said hi!
  • Me: Oh..um..well she passed away back in November.
  • Man: Oh I am soo sorry!  We didn’t hear about it.  I’m soo sorry.

You know, that never gets any easier—breaking it to someone that is just so full of excitement after not seeing her in years that they want you to tell her hi for them, and seeing how it hits them.  It really knocks the wind out of my sails to have to be the one to tell them too.  The sweet part of it being bittersweet is knowing how well liked my Mom was by anyone that ever had the pleasure of meeting her.

Dad’s ER Visit

by Shane Holden on June 22, 2011

Yesterday morning, my oldest brother gave me a call about taking Dad to the ER.  Dad’s been progressively worse over the past few weeks, with the past 3-4 days just feeling horrible.  I agreed that he should go if he would, but only with the understanding that his appointment next Tuesday with the GI would not get cancelled in the process.  Meeting them in the parking lot, Dad was having some very bad pains, and holding his stomach like he has been for the past few days.  He was miserable.

Walking into the Emergency Room was very hard for me.  7 months prior I walked in there for the first time and received an event that still effects me to this day.  I don’t like the ER, or any hospital for that matter.  I don’t like the atmosphere.  I don’t like the possibilities.  I just don’t like it.

Power Outages Aren’t Cool

by Shane Holden on June 20, 2011

Saturday afternoon we had a storm blow through our area that had some crazy hard winds along with it. We lost a few large limbs (6 inch diameter) from some of the pine tress we have out front, one tree across the backyard fence, hundreds and hundreds of pine cones in the yard, and a snapped power pole that’s in our front yard. We spent almost the entire day yesterday working in the yard trying to restore it to what it had previously been. Supposedly, the latest estimate has us getting power back today at lunch, which will make going home nice since we’ve now been powerless for going on 2 days now.

You get so used to the convenience of seeing when it’s dark, warm showers, decent temperature at night, that when you lose it, it’s hard not to find yourself flicking light switches when you go into rooms, and wishing you could stay cool when it’s time for bed.  I really don’t know what’s worse, power outage in the summer or winter.  It’s a tossup.

Last Night’s CNN Debate

by Shane Holden on June 14, 2011

The debate last night on CNN was pretty good, although there were quite a few aspects that I didn’t care for at all.  Mostly trying to limit the answers to 30 seconds.  For many of the questions, especially those of the economy and how to fix it, 30 seconds just isn’t enough.  You have to give some background information, and explain things that are basically a taboo on the mainstream news, such as the Federal Reserve, and our Monetary Policy.  For our Foreign Policy, 30 seconds just isn’t enough to explain why we have enemies in the Middle East now, and why exactly our Foreign Policy has been flawed for decades.

Another thing that I dislike about the debates, is how they give each candidate a different question.  Let’s ask one question, give each candidate 3-5 minutes to answer, and then move along to the next subject.  As well as wasting time on silly this-or-that questions.

DC, Short & Long

by Shane Holden on June 13, 2011

I’m a little behind on writing about our trip to DC.  My motivation lately can be found near the nonexistant level, even with trying as much as I can to do better on things.  Even writing, something that I think ultimately helps me, comes with such put-off that it takes me much longer than I ever want or anticipate to type something out, or in some cases, respond to emails.

I’ll start off with the short version, which was a text conversation with one of my friends.

  • Friend: So how was your whole trip?
  • Me: It was good, nice to get away, although very lonely.  I want to go back again sometime though and see the rest :)
  • Friend: Why lonely?
  • Me: I dunno, hard to explain, but was.  The ride up was emotional to begin with, leaving Dad alone and going the same route we went with Mom last summer, sounds wussy but that sort of thing gets to me lately.
  • Friend: That makes sense.  It isn’t a wussy thing at all.  Family should always be one of the things you care about most.
