Eminem: Recovery

by Shane Holden on June 27, 2010

The latest release from Eminem, Recovery, has quickly become my favorite album from him thus far.  I do as I always do, and pick a few songs that quickly become my favorites, which include Going Through Changes, Space Bound, 25 To Life, and Love The Way You Lie.  Eminem is one of those artists that I think you either love or hate, whether it be because of the type of music, or the language or lyrics in his songs, but one thing is hard to deny, most all of his songs have a great beat to them.  It’ll be interesting to see whether this release can help prevent the music industry from collapsing, as some have predicted.

Father’s Day Ride 2010

by Shane Holden on June 20, 2010

We left around 10:30AM with no real trip planned out.  My brother really wanted to ride where we’ve never ridden before, and suggested out towards Alabama.  We ended up taking 136 by Cloudland Canyon and just continued from there and ended up going through Fort Payne.  We had a nice lunch at Shane’s Rib Shack in Rome before heading home.  I ran off and left my little camera at work on Friday since I’ve been using it there, so unfortunately have no pictures from this ride.  It was a great trip though that lasted over 6 hours and was about 210 miles long.

So Much For Security

by Shane Holden on June 18, 2010

Once upon a time, there was job security in a government job.

That’s no longer the case. The layoff ax has hit public sector payrolls with force as states wrestle with massive budget shortfalls. Since August 2008, some 231,000 state and local government jobs have disappeared — 22,000 last month alone, according to federal data.

The majority of the cuts are on the local level, which at 14.4 million workers is nearly three times the size of the state workforce. Plus, unlike at the federal level, most of these cuts come from the ranks of teachers, cops, firefighters and social service workers. Source

This comes as no surprise for me.  I actually predicted just by seeing how much in the red local cities, counties, and even the state’s budgets all seem to be lately, that this would be coming sooner rather than later.  As an employee of a semi-state agency, there’s becoming a good chance that I may very well be affected by all of the scrambling that there is and will be later to fill these budget gaps.  Of course there’s no telling how things end up playing out as the year progresses, but it will certainly be interesting to see what the end results of these cuts will be for the services that are provided to the public in towns and cities across the nation.

GoldenEye Remake

by Shane Holden on June 16, 2010

Today I saw a status update from a friend on Facebook about the infamous GoldenEye 007 from the Nintendo 64 being remade exclusively for the Wii.  After looking it up and seeing a clip, sure enough, the greatest first person shooter game of all time is being remade.  This brings back a bit of nostalgia for me, as when this game was originally released I was 12, and my friends and I played this game for literally hundreds of hours and still to this day proclaim it as one of the greatest games of all time.  I remember it was one of the biggest accomplishments of Chase’s as far as gaming went, because he beat the game 100%, even through the hardest mode available, 007 Agent.

GM Dumps Chevy Name

by Shane Holden on June 10, 2010

General Motors has banned the use of the Chevy name in all of its corporate communications. From now on, the bow-tie brand will go by its proper name, Chevrolet.

Personally, I think this is a great move.  While nicknames are always great, they can be confusing and/or misleading to those that have no idea about them, and may actually cause someone to think that there are two different brands entirely.  I also feel that the proper name of ‘Chevrolet’ has much more of a professional feel to it rather than ‘Chevy’, especially when preceding a model, such as Chevrolet Corvette.
