G35 Test Drive

by Shane Holden on March 28, 2010

Yesterday we stopped by the local Chevy dealer and test drove a 2007 Infiniti G35.  Billy thought they might be interested in it, since they both love the looks of the car, so we figured why not take it for a spin and see how it was.  Power-wise, the car seemed very nice for a rear wheel drive V6 and was actually pretty peppy.  The interior was nice and the large bolsters on the seats felt great.  What was not impressive at all was the amount of road noise from the car.  When I imagine Infiniti, I think higher quality of a car and a very quiet compartment, similar to that of a Cadillac.  But with the G35 this wasn’t the case at all.  The noise was pretty bad while just riding, but while breaking was much worse.  I’m sure it wouldn’t bother some, and it wouldn’t me if it weren’t for the fact of what car it is.  It’s the amount of road noise I expect in a Corvette, or other true sports car—not an Infiniti.  I think that’s scratched it off his list of possible cars, especially since it would probably be a car for the both of them.

  • Chili’s Girl: Thanks for coming! Have a good day!
  • All of us: Thank you! You have a good one too!
  • Chili’s Girl: Hey are y’all twins?
  • Me & Chase: Yep, sure are.
  • Chili’s Girl: Oh wow, I thought so! Double bye then!

Writing Haiku

by Shane Holden on March 23, 2010

Lately I’ve found myself counting the syllables of words, trying to piece together phrases to form haiku.  I’ve been doing this mostly at work since things are slow, and it helps the day go by better by having something to do.  I’m quite surprised at how many I’ve been able to come up with so far—some better than others.  Most all of them are about the easiest topic to write something like this about, love, or occasionally the lack-thereof.  I may post them periodically on here as sort of a Haiku Tuesday type post until I run out of the creativity needed to write them.

Payback In November

by Shane Holden on March 22, 2010

Passage of the health care bill last night was completely ridiculous.  The bill is immoral and unconstitutional, as well as the way it was passed.  Not to even mention the costs of such a plan.  Deals were made, and dollars put in people’s pockets, in order to ensure that they voted ‘yes’ for this heap of junk of a bill.  The Congressmen know good and well that a larger number of people would rather see nothing passed than what they are proposing, yet they get Obama to issue an Executive Order in order to appease their concern so they can get that extra vote or two.  If it wasn’t obvious before to some, it should be now, those that are in office do not care about the people.  And I guess Obama will be proud of the jobs this bill will create as well.  16,000 more IRS employees to enforce the theft of our hard earned money for those of us that do not have health insurance.

Ran Into An Old Friend Today

by Shane Holden on March 16, 2010

It’s funny sometimes how paths are crossed at some of the most unlikeliest of times or places.  Today my brother and ran into an old childhood friend while meeting up for lunch with Billy and Alicia at the Honey Baked Ham Store.  It’s been probably 10-12 years since we’ve seen each other, and it’s funny how you can recognize someone after such a long time.  We talked for a few minutes and learned that he actually works for a place that we do work for at our work pretty often.  In fact, he’s probably been at our work sometime during some training, and just never knew that we worked there.

Our personal lives have taken a much different route when comparing one to another.  He’s married, and has a child with a second on the way.  I of course, am no where near that.  I envy him for that, because I would love to be in that situation, or at least be happily married at this point in my life. But I couldn’t be more happier for him and how great things have worked out in his life so far.  It was great to get to see each other, and hopefully it won’t be anywhere near another 10 before we get to catch up again.

Come On, LOST Writers!

by Shane Holden on March 14, 2010

LOST is no doubt one of my favorite shows ever.  There are so many questions currently left unanswered, that were supposedly going to be answered before the series finale.  Now they say that some of them won’t be answered, ever!  I understand running out of time, but there have been quite a few episodes in some of the seasons that get absolutely no where.  But it’s not like griping about it will change their minds, because I’m sure they’ll keep fans talking about it for years to come by not answering some of the most prominent questions.

Many of the questions posed during the run of “Lost” that have been keeping you up at night are never going to be answered on the show but will instead be tossed on the compost heap like an old turnip, because, the writers say, they have run out of time.

New Lease On Life

by Shane Holden on March 10, 2010

I’ve noticed in the mornings while getting ready for work, my mom will often look out of the window and say how beautiful the day is. This is on truly beautiful clear days, as well as gloomy and rainy days. Her view on life itself has been completely altered. She now enjoys every single day regardless of anything bad that may be happening, nasty weather, or any of the other small insignificant things that we often let ruin our enjoyment of daily life.

Not The Carpet Capital For Nothing

by Shane Holden on March 7, 2010

DALTON — When the stars walk down the red carpet to kick off tonight’s Academy Awards, the plush feeling enjoyed by their feet will be coming to them courtesy of Dalton.

More specifically, American Carpet Wholesalers.

Leslie Unger, director of communications for Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, told The Daily Citizen that the carpet was obtained through American Carpet Wholesalers in Dalton.

The carpet, which is covered in plastic until the very last minute to protect it from the elements and muddy footprints, is about 500 feet long and 33 feet wide.

Unger said the carpet brand is Weston Hill which is manufactured by Mohawk Industries.

The carpet, over which all of the guests entering the Kodak Theater will travel to enter the awards ceremony, was put down earlier this week.
