Carved Some Pumpkins

by Shane Holden on October 26, 2009

This evening we spent some time carving some pumpkins for Halloween.  Alicia bought 8 and brought to the house over the weekend, and we just now found the time this afternoon to carve them.  This is the first time I’ve carved a pumpkin in years, and coincidentally is the best one that I’ve ever done.  It’s also the first one that I’ve ever printed out a design to follow rather than the traditional triangle eyes and partially toothless mouth.  Every one’s looked great, but we only had 3 candles tonight, so wasn’t able to get a picture of all of them carved.  My mom and dad even carved them one as well.

From left to right – Chase’s, Alicia’s and mine.

Catching Up For Saw VI

I usually like to do things in the order they should be done, and in the case of movies, watching them in the order of release.  But for the Saw movies, I started with Saw V last Halloween when I was invited to the movies to watch it.  I’m not big into gory stuff, but [...]

Trapt

by Shane Holden on October 14, 2009

Trapt is a band that I’ve recently put in my all time favorite list. Unfortunately their latest album was the only one that I was able to catch when it was new, but I have since then went back and found their first two albums. I wish that I had caught them back when they came out years ago, but then again if I had, I probably wouldn’t be enjoying listening to them now. I usually pick a few songs out of any album that are my favorite, and seem to mainly listen to them and skip the others, but for Trapt, they are pretty much 3/3 for great songs throughout the entire albums.

Dalton’s Liberty Tree

by Shane Holden on October 11, 2009

Every city and small town in America probably has things hidden inside it’s boundaries that are unknown to most, even it’s own citizens.  In this case, it’s the Liberty Tree that Dalton was given the honor of receiving that I just learned about.

Best Approach To Possible Happenings

by Shane Holden on October 9, 2009

Hope for the best.  Expect the worst.

That’s what I do.  So much better than expecting things to work out in the best way when there’s always a chance that they won’t.  It doesn’t give you as much of a let down if things fall through, yet sets you up for a nice little surprise if things happen to go in the direction of good.

Watched: I Love You, Man

Plot summary: Peter Klaven’s world revolves around his real estate work and Zooey, his soon-to-be fiancée. After he pops the question, she calls her best friends and they go into wedding planning mode. Peter has no male friends and that poses problems: will he turn out to be a clingy guy, and who will be [...]

Response Suspense

by Shane Holden on October 2, 2009

I hate sending someone a message, someone you don’t really know but would really like to know, and not getting a response in a decent time-frame.  I think it’s just really seeing acknowledgment that what I said was taken correctly.  I’m always second guessing myself, the wording of things I write, wondering if I perhaps should have just held off on hitting that send button when I did, so a delayed reply back only makes questioning my words even greater.  It’s not that I think that I overstepped any boundaries or shouldn’t have corresponded, but perhaps that my sincerity may not be realized.  I know why I do things and say things, unfortunately not everyone else does.  As with all things, time will certainly tell.

To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; to leave the world a little better; whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is the meaning of success. — Ralph Waldo Emerson
