Missed My Class Reunion

by Shane Holden on January 28, 2009

A class reunion is not typically one of those things that you’d think could be overlooked, yet somehow I managed to miss mine.  I logged into my social network accounts on monday and saw status updates like “had a blast at the SHS reunion!” and realized it was this past saturday :(

Friends have posted hundreds of pictures yesterday and today, and it looks like it was a decent turn out and everyone seemed to be having a great time.  A few of the pictures had me scratching my head trying to figure out who they were, but I’d bet that others would have done the same about me as well.

Oh well, here’s to hopefully making it to the next one!

Good Timeless Advice

by Shane Holden on January 26, 2009

If you eat a frog first thing in the morning, the rest of your day will be wonderful.
Mark Twain

The rest of the day truly does go better, and to my surprise, sometimes faster after doing the most dreaded task first.

Snow From Last Night

by Shane Holden on January 20, 2009

We actually got some snow last night!  Not much at all really, but school was canceled (due to ice on the parking lots) in the city and county.  Which meant a delayed opening at work today, 10:00 instead of 8:30 :)

A couple of cell phone pics:

Rating Yourself

by Shane Holden on January 19, 2009

A little while ago I received a memo for my “annual performance review” here at work.  Which is kind of funny because I’ve been here 7+ years, and this is the first time I’ve seen such an item.  I consider myself lucky for that, because I don’t really like paperwork, and especially rating myself on various subjects.

A quick glance over it leaves me to believe that the most weight of it will be from my supervisor’s responses, although mine obviously will bear some weight in it.

The topics at hand are:

  • Ability to Plan, Prioritize, and Organize
  • Job Knowledge
  • Acceptance of Responsibility
  • Goal Setting
  • Judgment and Decisions
  • Initiative and Creativity
  • Ability to Cooperate with Others
  • Quantity of Performance
  • Quality of Performance
  • Oral Expression
  • Written Expression
  • Level of Supervision
  • Response to Constructive Criticism

Fresh Contacts

by Shane Holden on January 16, 2009

A fresh pair of contacts make all the difference in the world on making things appear sharp and crisp like they should.  I’m aweful on putting it off because it always seems like the time to change always comes when they feel perfectly comfortable.  The saying “if it’s not broke don’t fix it” pretty much sums it up for me.  Now if they are bothering me when it comes time, I don’t mind at all to change ;)

I ended up changing mine out last night when one of mine started bothering me – like I had something in my eye.  I figured instead of just sleeping it off, it would be a great reason to put some new ones in.  Usually I am quick, and it takes me only a couple of minutes, and if I’m lucky there’s no taking one of them back out (sometimes time and time again) to wash it off because something might have gotten on it.

Good Albums Lately

by Shane Holden on January 7, 2009

I’m almost completely turned away from listening to the radio because of all of the commercials they play.  Not only that, but our station that plays the stuff I like, ’96.5 The Mountain’ out of Chattanooga, has some (in my opinion) awfully annoying hosts.  I don’t like to hear them talking and blabbing on about random nothing all the way up until it’s time for the singer to start the first lyric.

It seems like, at least I hope, that we are on a streak of good albums coming out.  I’m one that will put a CD in the car and listen to it for weeks before changing.  Right now I’m enjoying ‘All-American Rejects – When The World Comes Down,’ and before that was ‘Nickelback – Dark Horse.’  Really there’s not a song on either of those that I don’t like, so no need to hit the next button.

How Old Is Your Car In People Years?

by Shane Holden on January 4, 2009

Jalopnik came up with a funny way to check your car’s age in people years.

Take the mileage on the car’s odometer and divide by the model year. The result is your car’s age if it were a person.

Phenix City Tomorrow

by Shane Holden on January 3, 2009

Tearing out in the morning about 7 or 8am for a 3 hour drive to Phenix City, Alabama.  My brother and I have another job to do for our oldest brother while he is out of town on a trip.  We actually went there on the 1st to do it, but there were alot of other people there doing their work, painting and electrical, and it just takes alot longer to work and try to stay out of others’ way.  I’m hoping that since tomorrow is Sunday, there won’t be anyone there and we can get our part done w/o the hassel of working around people.  It should take us about 8-10hrs to do it all and then head back.  I’d rather be working tomorrow than being here at home with it rainy and gloomy out.
