Our County’s SPLOST Tax

March 27th, 2008

At the last county election, a local tax called ‘SPLOST’ was voted on and approved.  It is basically another 1% tax that is tacked onto the sales tax, which is supposed to be for improvements on our local road system.  Since then, I have seen nothing at all be improved.  A couple of years ago, our county did a county-wide waterline project.  During this, they had to saw up strips across the road to get the waterline across, and when they were done w/ that they poured these strips w/ concrete.  Well since then, all of these have sank down.  I would have assumed that the many thousands and thousands of dollars that this new tax was going to be bringing in would have been used to repave some of these roads.  Wrong! Read the rest of this entry »

Spring is Finally Here

March 25th, 2008

Technically the first day of spring was a few days ago, but it’s now starting to feel like it should.  I’m sitting in my batcave of an office right now(no windows at all and can barely see daylight through the hallway :( ) checking out the 10 day forecast, which is showing high 60s to low 70s for most of that time.  I can’t say how happy I am that the cold weather is almost gone ;)   Read the rest of this entry »

Our Unique “Pet”

March 18th, 2008

Since it’s been right at a year since she came here, I thought I’d share some about our unique pet that’s been hanging around.

Last March sometime, me, my dad, and my brother were on our way down to Miami to pick up my brother’s bike that he had bought.  At some point on the trip, my mom called and she was like, “You’ll never guess what is in the backyard!”  My response was “a Unicorn”  ROFL

TurkeyWell it ended up being this wild turkey that had somehow gotten in the backyard, and from where it came we have no idea.  She’s been living in our backyard every since.  When it gets close to sunset, she’ll fly up in one of the trees and crash there for the night. What a Week

March 14th, 2008

Things have been so hectic this week at work.  Thank goodness that today is friday.  Apparently before my brother and I go out in the field to do our work, we have to go around to everyone and ask if they need us to make any maps or files for them before we go.  Which really is no big deal, except for the fact that you can’t find some of the people here until 9:15, and w/ a two hour drive to our destination to begin work, that cuts into our work time a huge amount.  That happened a couple of times this week and made me so mad a few times  Usually I wouldn’t care at all, but w/ a strict deadline, there’s not too much room to play on. A Fixed Cat is a Happy Cat

March 9th, 2008

Last monday, a week from tomorrow, we took our girl cat to the vet and got her fixed.  I worried about her the whole day while she was gone because I know that sometimes things go wrong.  Well we got her back that night and I can only imagine how bad she felt.  She was ill as a hornet!  That entire night she would just growl and hiss if you tried to pet her or just touch her to check up on her.  This lady at work told us that once they are fixed, they become sweeter.  Well she wasn’t kidding at all.  Every since she recouped from the surgery and the shock of it all, she has become incredibly sweet.  She was a nice cat before, friendly, like to be held and all that jazz, but now, it’s like she can’t get enough affection from anybody.  She seriously will follow whoever is in the house around and meow trying to get you to pet or hold her :)

Stock Market CrashI meant to post this on Friday, but forgot to.  I was checking out the current S&P standing on MSN,  and the first time I opened the page it looked like this. Obviously it was just a glitch, but a wild one at that!
