Going Paperless

by Shane Holden on December 31, 2008

I have a filing cabinet beside my desk at home.  As I get statements in the mail, I usually lay the entire envelope (sometimes without even opening them) on the top of the computer until it makes a stack that’s a few inches tall and I get tired of looking at it.  At this point, I’ll take the time to file them in folders by bank name or other issuer.  I really don’t like this method of storing the statements since the folders get bulky and I run out of room in the cabinet.  Not to mention if you ever need to find a specific month, you have to go digging through them.

Forgot Sta-bil

by Shane Holden on December 27, 2008

As many times as I’ve seen the commercial for Sta-bil, laughing at it, I knew for certain that would never be me.  I couldn’t have been more wrong!  I spent more than an hour today trying to get my bike started.  Apparently when it came time to put them up for the winter, none of us remembered fuel stabilizer.  After leaving the battery charger on it and running the battery down 3-4 times, I was finally able to get it started.  You could tell by the smell of the exhaust that the gas had turned bad.  And since it was warm out, I went for a short cool ride afterwords to fill it up, which felt great!

So Cold Today

by Shane Holden on December 22, 2008

For over the past week, it’s seemed like we’ve had nothing but rain in my area. Hopefully we’ve had enough recently to satisfy the weatherpeople’s craving for rain, since they are usually saying “we’re in the need of some precipitation.” I assumed with it being mid December, once the rain passed we’d be hit with the cold. And today it definitely happened.

When I arrived at work this morning I checked the temperature. It was 18° outside with a windchill of 4°! That’s the kind of cold that feels like it cuts you in half. As I’m writing, it’s 25° with a windchill of 18°, so not quite as bad as this morning. The crazy part is that the end of the week and Saturday is supposed to be in the 50s & 60s!

Program Errors

by Shane Holden on December 17, 2008

I absolutely hate having to redo work due to program errors.  I’ve had the following Runtime Error 5 times today so far, and it’s making it impossible to get things done.

The error might as well have looked like this:

New Little Guy

by Shane Holden on December 8, 2008

Mid last week sometime my dad sent me a video txt message of a little dog he found at his work.  He stepped off of a piece of equipment and this little guy was sitting there watching him.  It was pretty cold outside so he took him in the office where it was nice and warm.  His work is on US Hwy 41, where hundreds of cars pass daily, so a stray animal doesn’t really have much of a chance.  No one came by all day, or since then for that matter, and he didn’t have a collar or any tags on him, so the delimma was to let him stay in the office, or to bring him home.  Apparently this little guy touched a soft spot and made it to our house :)

Christmas Parades

by Shane Holden on December 7, 2008

The closest I have really ever been to seeing a Christmas parade is getting blocked into work a couple of times by the one that Dalton has.  They line up on Waugh Street, and by the time 5 o’clock rolls around, our driveway is blocked.

So yesterday I went up to Chattanooga w/ my friend Ashley to check out Chattanooga’s Christmas Parade.  It started at 6, and lasted over an hour, and was pretty neat.  They had lots of service men and women there, tons of twirlers, about a dozen or so Corvettes, and a bunch of other stuff in it.  I called time/temp as we left, and it was supposedly 36° out, but I swear it felt much colder.  It was pretty cool though; I enjoyed it :)
